Programme details

Bachelor of Science (Technology)

The course delivers hands-on, real-world experience by blending theoretical learning with practical application, helping you transition confidently into your chosen career.

Course description

This is a versatile degree aimed at equipping you with essential practical experience that distinguishes you from other graduates in the field of science. This program incorporates 10 weeks of pertinent work experience, with our Work Placement Team facilitating the connection between students and placement opportunities, as well as providing reflective learning and skill enhancement following the completion of placements. Many students are frequently offered permanent positions after their placements. Pursuing a BSc(Tech) from Waikato means you will have engaged in relevant work experience during the summer between your second and third years, often receiving compensation for your contributions. To ensure you are well-prepared for the professional environment and to gain insights into the workings of the business sector, the BSc(Tech) includes a workplace preparation course prior to the commencement of the work placement, alongside a diverse array of science courses. The first year of the program mirrors that of the Bachelor of Science (BSc), allowing you to investigate various scientific fields, expand your opportunities, and establish a solid foundation, even if you have no prior experience in science. From the second year onward, your chosen major will constitute the central focus of your degree, providing you with a more profound comprehension of a specific discipline.

Additionally, minor subjects allow you to create a customized program that helps you stand out and ensures you possess a distinctive skill set. Our science minors will introduce you to a complementary discipline, enhancing your knowledge and showcasing the breadth of your scientific capabilities. Alternatively, you may choose a minor from a related non-science field to demonstrate to potential employers your ability to apply your skills across various domains.
