The sport and leisure sector, recognized as one of the fastest expanding industries in New Zealand, offers a range of thrilling career prospects. The Bachelor of Sport & Human Performance (BSHP), available in Hamilton and in collaboration with Toi Ohomai in Tauranga, will provide you with contemporary knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in this vibrant field, while also contributing to the enhancement of physical, social, and mental well-being of individuals. Covering the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions, we take pride in nurturing cooperative relationships with leading organizations and facilities across the country. These partnerships enable students to engage with industry and community stakeholders, such as the Chiefs, BOP Magic, Cycling NZ, Sport Waikato, Sport Bay of Plenty, Enabling Good Lives, K’aute Pasifika, and Paralympics NZ.

The state-of-the-art facilities include the latest sport science equipment, specifically The University of Waikato Sports Laboratory located at the Cambridge Avantidrome and The University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance in Tauranga. Both facilities are outfitted with advanced technology to assess athlete performance, exercise, and recovery, featuring an environmental chamber designed for altitude training.

Entry requirements

As an international student studying at undergraduate level, you are required to meet academic and English language  entry requirements.

To be eligible for a bachelor’s programme, applicants typically need to have completed secondary education. However, the exact academic performance requirements may differ depending on the country of origin.
