This qualification aims to equip individuals for the airline and military sectors of the aviation industry, ensuring they possess the necessary operational skills and knowledge to deliver safe, secure, and customer-oriented in-flight services for both domestic and international flights, whether in commercial or non-commercial organizations as flight attendants. Graduates will gain a thorough understanding of aviation safety, security, and customer service. Their practical skills and knowledge will enable them to operate under general supervision, and they may also hold some accountability for the performance of their peers. The optional specialization in Operator Specific Operational Flight Attending acknowledges the unique expertise and skills developed while fulfilling the responsibilities of a flight attendant on operational flights.

*Please note – Most airlines prefer applicants with customer service experience so it is recommended that you have two years of customer service experience or plan to enrol in the Level 5 Diploma in Tourism & Travel Management after finishing this programme. This will give you the chance to gain valuable customer service experience through a domestic or international internship, and other employment opportunities before applying for flight attendant roles.
Applicants must:
Be 18 or over upon completion of the qualification due to the requirements of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (2012)*
Have achieved a New Zealand or National Certificate qualifications in Tourism and Travel related areas at Level 3. Other equivalent qualifications will be considered.
Students should also be able to swim, including (but not limited to):
Swim freestyle (overarm) 25 metres, in swimmers
Swim 50 metres, any style within a 2 minute time frame, in clothing and lifejacket
Tread water for 2.5 mins
Rescue swim (drag a partner) 25 metres, and swap over
