If you aspire to conduct advanced research in music composition or performance, UC's Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) program is an excellent choice.

Course description

The DMA program specifically targets individuals who are eager to pursue advanced research in the dynamic realms of music composition or performance. It is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of music through a combination of academic inquiry and practical application. The program incorporates a robust academic research component, which is represented by a supervised thesis that allows candidates to explore and analyze significant topics within their chosen field. This thesis not only demonstrates the candidate’s research capabilities but also contributes to the broader discourse in music.

Furthermore, the program includes performance practice, which may encompass a range of activities such as public performances or the showcasing of original compositions.
