Graduate Diploma in Geography

Geography matters because it is about basic human relationships - between people and the environment, and between people and other people.

Course description

The Geography program at Waikato focuses on human geography and is recognized as one of the leading geography programs worldwide. We provide courses in environmental planning, geographic information systems, and social and cultural geography. Several courses specifically highlight Māori and feminist viewpoints, as well as the social, economic, and political dynamics that shape these perspectives. Our curriculum encourages students to analyze and propose solutions to the rapid changes brought about by development, tourism, globalization, environmental degradation, population growth, and consumption. The Geography program at Waikato extends beyond traditional classroom learning, offering a wide array of career prospects.

Graduates often find employment in urban and regional planning, regional economic development, travel and tourism, environmental consultancy, the property and housing sector, and local government.
