Graduate Diploma in History

The examination of history involves the analysis of a disputed past. In Aotearoa, it is essential to investigate our colonial history and comprehend the enduring and foundational narratives of the Māori that span centuries.

Course description

The study of history cultivates essential skills such as the ability to locate and analyze sources, develop research inquiries, and write effectively. These competencies are applicable to various professions in media, education, business, and policy, as well as in the field of history itself. In Aotearoa New Zealand and globally, the instruction and presentation of historical narratives through diverse sensory mediums, including oral history, art, and performance, are creating opportunities for historians to engage in dynamic fields such as music, gaming, and film.

The research and teaching focus on significant themes including Māori and Indigenous history, Pacific history, gender in history, environmental history, research methodologies, and US history. Collectively, we explore the processes through which history is created, contested, and preserved.
