Obtain a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (GradDipTchg) in just one year, enabling you to transform education, nurture creativity, and motivate the upcoming generation to drive change.

Course description

Graduates of the Graduate Diploma in Teaching will be exceptionally well-prepared and highly esteemed by educational employers both in Aotearoa New Zealand and internationally. The program offers distinct courses for Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary education, integrating Professional Education coursework with practical placements in schools or early childhood education centers. Participants will engage in a total of 80 days of hands-on experience across two different educational settings to apply their newly acquired skills.

Additionally, we acknowledge prior experience in the Trades and Technology sectors, as well as proficiency in Te Reo Māori or Pacific languages, allowing selected candidates to gain entry into the GradDipTchg through the Alternative Entry Pathway.

This course may also offer a pathway to residency after graduating, registering with NZ Teaching Council, and securing a role with a school or ECE center.

Occupational Registration

Certain occupations require registration by law in New Zealand. This programme leads to registration with New Zealand Teaching Council.

Entry requirements

-Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree at Level 7 on the NZ Qualifications Framework or a recognised equivalent.
-All applicants are subject to an interview and selection process.
-Candidates seeking to enroll in a secondary program must have sufficient knowledge in a relevant subject at levels 5 to 7 or higher as part of their teaching qualifications.
-Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary)- The chosen curriculum area needs to align with previous tertiary study.
-Career changers: Technology education (Secondary)-Two-year pathway including a Diploma in Education, and then a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary).
– Alternative entry pathway- Applicants approved for entry via this pathway will be required to enrol in, and successfully complete, one undergraduate paper before full enrolment into the Graduate Diploma in Teaching.

iBT (internet-based) TOEFL 80 with a score of 21 in writing
iBT (home-based) TOEFL 80 with a score of 21 in writing
Duolingo English Test (DET) 105
C2 Proficiency (formally known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)) 169 and no bands below 162
Language Cert International ESOL (LRWS) B2 Communicator with 33-37 score per skill
