Specialisations

Master of Laws with Honours is awarded based on the following classifications:

  • First Class Honours,
  • Second Class Honours (first division), or
  • Second Class Honours (second division).

To qualify for honours, completion of the Master of Laws qualification within 12 months (full-time) or not exceeding four calendar years (part-time) and passing all papers is required.

Entry requirements

Academic requirements

In order to be admitted to the LLM program, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Completed an LLB or a combined Law degree at the University of Waikato with a minimum ‘B’ grade point average, or an equivalent qualification from another university.
  • Completed an LLB (Hons) at the University of Waikato with at least a ‘B’ grade point average, or a combined Law degree at the University of Waikato, or an equivalent qualification from another university.
  • Met the prerequisites for graduate study in the subject at a level deemed appropriate by the Academic Board.
    In special cases, candidates who do not meet these requirements but have a proven academic record and relevant experience may be considered for admission to the program.

English proficiency

Students whose native language is not English must provide evidence of English proficiency, with an overall score of 6.5 (no band less than 6.0) in the IELTS or equivalent test.
