Course description

Acquire advanced skills in biomedical research. If you hold a Bachelor of Biomedical Science or a related degree, you can apply for the 240-point Master of Biomedical Science program. Admission requires a B+ average in your 300-level undergraduate courses. This two-year program includes both coursework and a comprehensive Master’s project and thesis.

In your first year, known as Part 1, you’ll select and complete approximately four courses totaling 90 points, along with the Research Preparation course (BMSC 580). This coursework will equip you for the second year, or Part 2, where you will undertake a full-time research project culminating in a thesis. It is essential to arrange a thesis topic with a supervisor before enrolling in Part 1 of the Master’s program.

Entry requirements

– A bachelor’s degree
– To have completed 200- and 300-level courses worth at least 180 points from those listed for the BBmedSc
– To have met the requirements for at least one major of the BBmedSc
– Acceptance by the head of the school as capable of proceeding with the proposed course of study

EL requirement (any one of the following)
– IELTS (Academic): Minimum overall score of 6.5, with no sub-score below 6.0
– TOEFL (Internet-based test): Minimum score of 90, with at least 20 in writing
– Pearson Test of English: Minimum score of 58, with a ‘Communicative’ score of no less than 50
– EAP:Minimum final scores of 4, 4, 5, 5
– Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or higher, with each skill score no less than 169
– New Zealand Certificates in English Language (NZCEL): Level 5 (Academic)
– NZAPA: English New Zealand Accredited Pathway Assessment Level 3, with no skill lower than Level 2
