The Master of Cyber Security program is the first of its kind in New Zealand, designed to meet global demand in Cyber Security Strategy

Course description

The demand for trained cyber security experts is growing at 3.5 times the rate of the overall job market, with a “near zero” unemployment rate in this field.

As you work towards your Master of Cyber Security (MCS), you’ll develop a comprehensive understanding of the technical, legal, policy, and management aspects of cyber security. This includes studying cloud computing technologies, computer infrastructure, and cyber security law.

You will acquire skills in detecting security breaches, implementing preventative measures, and conducting offensive security activities such as computer system penetration testing. The program encourages innovative thinking and the application of knowledge at an advanced professional level. Naturally you will have 24/7 access to the computer lab with latest equipment and software provided.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for admission into the MCS program, students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Academic Qualifications:
    • Completed a relevant bachelor’s degree or postgraduate diploma, typically in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
    • Achieved an average of at least a B grade in 300-level or higher Computer Science papers.
  2. English Language Proficiency (for International Students):
    • An IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall, with no less than 6.0 in any band.
