Master of Dental Technology (MDentTech)

The Master of Dental Technology (MDentTech) program typically requires two years of full-time study (or the equivalent in part-time study) and includes three 500-level papers along with a thesis.

Course description

Dental technology involves the technical aspects of dentistry, where dental technicians create appliances to enhance a patient’s appearance, speech, or ability to chew.

Dental technicians play a vital role in the dental team, applying their knowledge of dental material science and their design and fabrication skills to reconstruct patients’ teeth.

For those who have already completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Technology (PGDipDentTech), the MDentTech can be completed in one year by focusing solely on the thesis.

Entry requirements

Admission to the program requires approval from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences). Applicants must demonstrate the ability to undertake advanced academic study and meet one of the following criteria:

– Have been admitted to the Bachelor of Dental Technology degree (for those studying by papers and thesis), or
– Have been awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Dental Technology (for those studying by thesis only), or
– Possess alternative qualifications and experience acceptable to the Dean of Dentistry, with consideration given to the specifics of their course of study and academic performance.

If an applicant’s previous qualifications do not include the Bachelor of Dental Technology, they must have passed a suitable research methodology paper as a prerequisite for the thesis.
