Master of Design – MDes

You will create innovative and responsive design projects that are deeply rooted in design research methodologies and expertly executed, in the Master of Design program.

Course description

Embark on an advanced design research journey with our Master of Design program. You will focus on achieving targeted outcomes that often directly benefit industry. We facilitate strong connections with business, public, or non-profit sectors.

You will enjoy access to individual studio spaces and a wide range of technical resources, including:

  • An industry-scale green screen studio
  • Australasia’s pioneering Fab Lab
  • Industry-standard workshops
  • Digital imaging facilities
  • Darkrooms

Every MDes student completes a thesis project: a supervised program of concentrated design research. This involves addressing a challenging real-world issue and developing a well-executed solution, such as a product prototype.

Entry requirements

This is a selected entry qualification. This means there are a number of extra requirements you must meet.

You will have been awarded or qualified for a Bachelor of Design or equivalent, having achieved at least a B grade average.

You will also need to:

  • take part in an interview
  • submit a portfolio of design work for assessment.

You must also meet the University’s English Language proficiency requirements. Recognised English language examinations:
