Course description

The Master of Environmental Management program addresses the increasing necessity to safeguard the environment and utilize land, water, soil, plants, and animals in a sustainable and balanced manner. This course provides an opportunity to acquire advanced expertise in contemporary land and water-based environmental management. Students have the option to specialize in either the policy or economic aspects of environmental management. Additionally, they can enroll in classes focusing on essential environmental management tools and methodologies such as GIS, Remote Sensing, and Life Cycle Assessment.

The curriculum includes the subjects such as Analysis of current environmental challenges, Comprehensive and interdisciplinary approaches to solving environmental problems, Environmental assessment methods, Environmental economics, Environmental policy, Environmental anthropology, Engagement in environmental management, Research skills and conducting literature reviews, Project assessment. Participants will develop a profound comprehension of the functioning of the natural environment. They will also explore how societal values, requirements, and attitudes can be harmonized with the imperative to preserve the integrity of ecological systems.

Entry requirements

In order to be eligible for the Master of Environmental Management program, you must hold a relevant Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a minimum B average in the qualifying 300-level courses.

Alternatively, you can also qualify with a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management or its equivalent with at least a B average for the Applied pathway or a B+ average for the Research pathway.

Another option is to have a Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) or its equivalent with Second Class Honours, Division II or higher for the Applied pathway, or Second Class Honours, Division I or higher for the Research pathway.

If you possess a Bachelor of Environmental Management (Honours) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management from Massey University or an equivalent qualification as mentioned above, you are eligible to apply for credit towards Part One of the program.
