The Master of Geospatial Data Science prepares both current and aspiring geospatial professionals with expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and location data analysis, positioning them for leadership positions across government, industry, and research sectors. Graduates of the MGDS are endowed with critical problem-solving skills and the technical knowledge required for advanced roles in the geospatial domain. Currently, Aotearoa New Zealand faces a shortage of geospatial expertise, which these graduates are poised to meet across a diverse array of industries, such as the private sector, government agencies, and community organizations.
Potential job opportunities include positions as GIS analyst, GIS planner, local government analyst, or geospatial technology developer.
To be eligible, you must have attained a minimum Grade Point Average of B in 300-level courses pertinent to Geographic Data Science, such as computer science, environmental science, digital humanities, or other related fields. Individuals who have not completed GIS courses previously are required to undertake 30 points of undergraduate GIS courses, including GEOG205, GEOG208, GEOG323, or GISC422.
Candidates who do not possess a university degree may apply for admission based on a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, which will be subject to evaluation and approval.
