Course description

This program facilitates students’ involvement in in-depth intellectual analysis, critical evaluation, and problem-solving. It reflects their advanced knowledge in specialized fields of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), encourages effective teamwork, and supports the assumption of leadership roles when appropriate. Students will identify, evaluate, and confront ethical issues pertinent to ICT. They will apply their acquired knowledge and skills in practical environments, communicate effectively through oral, visual, and written channels, analyze and critique ICT research literature, engage in further academic pursuits, and conduct independent research.

Entry requirements

Candidates must have fulfilled all the requirements for a bachelor’s degree, graduate diploma, postgraduate certificate, or postgraduate diploma in information technology or a related field, achieving a minimum B grade average at Level 7 or above.

Non-native English speakers must provide proof of proficiency through one of the following unless the prior education is completed through New Zealand, Australia, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States where the students have been taught using English as the language of instruction.

– NCEA Level 3 with University Entrance
– International Baccalaureate Diploma or Cambridge A-levels in English
– CELTA or CertTESOL
– IELTS Academic score of 6.5 (no band below 6)
– TOEFL pBT score of 590 (essay score of 5.5 TWE)
– TOEFL iBT score of 79 (writing score of 21)
– Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency score of 176 (no skill below 169)
– OET Grade C+ or 300 in all sub-tests
– NZCEL Expiring or Current Level 5 (Academic/Professional)
– Pearson Test of English (Academic) score of 58 (no band below 50)
– Language Cert C1 Expert International ESOL Written (LRW) HIGH PASS and Spoken (S) PASS, or C2 Mastery International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS and Spoken (S) PASS
– Trinity ISE III (no band below pass)

Admissions to the Master of Information Technology are subject to approval by the programme manager, who will consult with the Head of Faculty and relevant teaching staff as necessary. The Head of Faculty will establish the maximum number of students allowed to enroll in the programme.
