Course description

The Master of Media and Creative Technologies (MMCT) offers you the chance to expand your expertise and abilities in Screen and Media Studies, provided by the Te Kura Toi/School of Arts, School of Social Sciences, School of Design, and Waikato Management School. This program is highly sought after both nationally and internationally because it not only gives students a competitive advantage in the media industry, but also prepares them to be influential leaders and innovators ready to tackle the challenges of the creative sector.

In addition to classroom instruction, you will collaborate with world-renowned media faculty to create a portfolio of audio-visual projects. You will have the opportunity to explore various areas such as short film, documentary, animation, photography, AI, VR, scriptwriting, online content, podcasts, and multimedia installations. Ultimately, students take charge of their learning, developing and producing creative works that demonstrate their unique voice, preparing them for public display and employment in a wide range of media-related fields.

Enrolling in the MMCT program will provide you with extensive experience in collaborative projects, supported by technical expertise and advanced creative skills. You will also gain a strong foundation in postgraduate academic practice and the application of critical and methodological skills in original research.

Entry requirements

You will require a relevant Bachelor degree and be asked to showcase your creative work by submitting a portfolio with 2-5 examples, including photography, short films, or creative writing.

Students whose native language is not English must present satisfactory evidence of their English language proficiency. An overall score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 achieved in the Writing band) in the IELTS or equivalent is required.
