Entry requirements

Applications must be submitted by the deadlines outlined in the Guidelines for Admission into the Health Sciences Professional Programmes at http://www.otago.ac.nz/healthsciences. The Nursing Admissions Committee (established by the Division of Health Sciences and approved by the Senate) selects eligible students for the Master of Nursing Science programme.

Selection is based on academic performance and appropriate attributes for the programme, with a focus on equity for Māori and other under-represented groups through the Te Kauae Parāoa policy. Preference may be given to applicants from specific equity groups, including Māori, Resident Indigenous Pacific, Rural, Socioeconomic Equity, and Refugee Backgrounds.

Applicants must hold a relevant undergraduate degree (with at least a B average in the final two years) and provide a current CV and statement of interest. Interviews may be required. The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) can approve exceptional admissions.

Applicants may be declined if they have criminal charges, disciplinary issues, or health concerns compromising their fitness to practice. Admission offers are conditional on the confirmation of the applicant’s suitability. The number of candidates admitted depends on the availability of clinical teaching placements.
