Master of Software Development – MSwDev

Shift your career path and gain the essential skills for a new role in software development with this industry-oriented conversion degree.

Course description

Looking to transition into a new career in web, mobile, or software application development? The Master of Software Development (MSwDev) can guide you through the process. This conversion degree is tailored for individuals from non-technical backgrounds seeking to enter the dynamic tech industry.

The MSwDev is an intensive 12-month program beginning in July (Trimester 2), offered by the School of Engineering and Computer Science as part of the Industry Alliance Programme. It provides hands-on experience in core programming concepts and skills, which you will apply to a project relevant to the industry.

Throughout the program, you’ll master Java, an object-oriented programming language used in large-scale enterprise applications. You’ll also explore data structures, version control, networking, databases, security, web systems, agile development methodologies, design patterns, and more. By acquiring these fundamental skills, you’ll gain the confidence needed to excel as a software developer.

If you already possess a strong technical background, the MSwDev may not be the most suitable option for you. Instead, consider one of our other postgraduate programs.

For those with a degree in Computer Science, you might explore the Master of Artificial Intelligence, MSc in Computer Science, or Master of Computer Science with a focus on Software Engineering.

Alternatively, if you hold an Engineering degree, the Master of Engineering or Master of Engineering Practice could be a better fit, particularly for many of our international students.
