New Zealand Certificate in Cellar Operations

In this practical program, you will acquire the necessary skills to perform cellar operations, as well as to oversee and guide less experienced personnel.

Course description

Students will dedicate a significant part of the year to enhancing skills through practical placement. The program offers students the chance to engage in grape processing, oversee vintage operations, and execute various wine production processes. This qualification aims to enhance the skills of current industry professionals, allowing them to broaden their essential knowledge base.

If you have already achieved Level 3 and are employed at a winery, you may be eligible to receive credit for the following initial four courses:

– Communication and Team Building

– Winery Equipment

– Vintage Preparation

– Vintage Management

Upon successful completion of the program, you will possess the skills and knowledge necessary to work autonomously as a cellar hand in a commercial winemaking environment and to supervise and mentor less experienced cellar staff.

Entry requirements

Applicants under 20 years old:

Achieved NCEA Level 2 – (credits in Numeracy, Science or English desirable).

Applicants 20 years or over:

No minimum academic requirements.

English language requirements:

If your first language is not English you should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall Academic score of at least 5 issued within the last two years with no less than 5 in any band or equivalent.
