New Zealand Certificate in Construction Trade Skills (Carpentry strand)

The objective of this course is to equip you with fundamental carpentry skills and knowledge, preparing you to enter the workforce and pursue an apprenticeship.

Course description

You will acquire a variety of fundamental skills related to timber-framed construction, encompassing the use of tools and machinery, as well as the development of practical trade skills. You will engage in hands-on activities at our specially designed trade campuses, where you will construct a prefabricated timber sleepout and even a two-bedroom residence. Additionally, you will gain insights into the building industry, including the functions of contractors and subcontractors. You will explore timber-framed construction, the essential principles of building, and all the key components necessary for house construction, including foundations, framing, roof framing, exterior cladding, and interior lining and trim.

This is a full-time study programme to achieve 120 credits, and you can continue with your apprenticeship training to achieve the Level 4 qualification.
