Course description

Those who earn this qualification will gain vital skills and knowledge necessary for securing employment across various roles. They will engage directly with individuals, families, and communities, playing a significant role in the health and wellbeing sectors. This qualification provides two unique specializations: – Dementia Care, which is dedicated to offering support and care for individuals affected by dementia, and – Diversional Therapy, which highlights the importance of recreational activities in improving the quality of life for clients.

Taking this course may lead to residency after working in New Zealand for 2 years as a caregiver.

Education pathways

-This qualification offers graduates the opportunity to advance their studies in health and wellbeing, potentially leading to the New Zealand Certificate in Public Health and Health Promotion (Level 5), the New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Studies (Applied) (Level 6), or;

-Bachelor’s degrees in relevant health and wellbeing disciplines.

-Additionally, for those interested in furthering their education in leadership and management, this qualification can facilitate progression to the New Zealand Certificate in Business (First Line Management) (Level 4), the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5), and the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 6), as well as bachelor’s degrees in associated leadership and management fields.

Entry requirements

-Aged 18 years of age and over
-Have English language competency as demonstrated by achievement of IELTS academic overall band score of 5.5 with no individual band lower than 5.0 or recognized equivalent
-IELTS results must be no more than 2 years old upon application and from one test
-Healthcare sector qualifications / experience confirmed with academic transcripts or work placement documents
-Clear criminal check (an initial check is to be provided from country of last abode)
-Physically able to do the job
-Willingness to work with the older person
