Course description

The Postgraduate Certificate in Translation and Interpreting (PGCertT&I) offers professional accreditation in either translation or interpretation across a diverse range of languages. This program comprises two courses: one mandatory and one optional. Participants will gain hands-on experience with computer-assisted translation tools or engage in interpretation within multicultural settings, including crisis and disaster communication, an area of expertise for UC.

Career Prospects

Acknowledged training for certification by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) as a professional translator or interpreter.

Graduates will have opportunities for employment in fields such as crisis communications, international business relations, government, software development, academia, tourism, education, and various other sectors.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for application, candidates must possess one of the following qualifications:

-A bachelor’s degree that includes a minimum of 60 points in 300-level language courses, achieving an average grade of B+, or an equivalent qualification in one of the following languages: Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, or Te Reo Māori.

-Any bachelor’s degree accompanied by relevant professional or other work experience in one of the aforementioned approved languages, or in another language that may be considered upon application.

Significant practical, professional, or academic experience that evidences the capability to undertake postgraduate studies, along with demonstrated equivalent proficiency in a suitable language.
