Course description

Students investigate a diverse array of subjects within Applied Linguistics, which encompasses conducting research on matters pertaining to the use, acquisition, and instruction of second and additional languages. Areas of focus include the influence of language on identity, the organization of language knowledge within the lexicon, the ways in which theoretical perspectives on language acquisition shape teaching methodologies, and the evaluation of proficiency in a second or additional language. Entry requirements

Academic requirement:

A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent qualification) with at least a B average in Language Sciences, Linguistics, Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), English Language, Education, or a language other than English. Consideration may be given if you have relevant professional experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree

Students may also be required to demonstrate your proficiency in English:

IELTS (Academic): minimum overall score of 6.5 with no sub-score below 6.0
TOEFL: minimum overall score of 90 with a minimum of 20 in Writing (internet-based test)
PTE: minimum overall score of 58 with no communicative skills score below 50
Victoria University of Wellington English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme: minimum final scores of 4,4,5,5
Cambridge English Qualifications: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency with a score of 176 or higher, with each skill score no less than 169
Duolingo (DET): minimum overall score of 120 with no band less than 105
