Course description

The qualification seeks to produce highly skilled graduates who will foster leadership and elevate the awareness of te reo Māori within bilingual, immersion, and mainstream educational contexts. This qualification is well-suited for educators in early childhood, primary, and secondary levels who aspire to enhance their te reo Māori language skills and pedagogical practices. Instruction for all courses is conducted in te reo Māori.

Entry requirements

To gain admission to the program, applicants must possess one of the following qualifications:

– a teaching degree from Aotearoa,
– any bachelor’s degree with a major in Education or a related field, achieving a minimum B Grade Average,
– a three-year diploma in Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Teaching,
– or equivalent qualifications from other recognized degrees.

Additionally, the selection process includes a hui with the Programme Coordinator to evaluate your proficiency in te reo Māori and to confirm your potential for success in the program.

If English is your additional language, you are also required to meet UC’s English language requirements. University recognises the following English Language tests and courses:
