This comprehensive 180-point taught MA program is accessible to graduates from a wide range of bachelor’s degrees, including arts, education, management, psychology, social sciences, and sciences. The program offers an extensive selection of subjects tailored to meet the demands of the modern global job market. Comprising solely of taught courses, it enables students to improve their career prospects or shift their focus and potential earnings, regardless of their previous academic experience.

Alternatively, the 120-point research MA offers students the opportunity to engage in independent (supervised) research across various subject areas. This pathway not only develops their research skills but also serves as a gateway to advanced research degrees.

The Master of Arts can be pursued within the Faculty of Māori and Indigenous Studies, the School of Arts, or the School of Social Sciences, providing a versatile and comprehensive academic experience. These areas include Iwi/hapu development, Education, Medicine, Research, Media, Government and Travel and Tourism. You can then choose between Māori and Indigenous Studies or Pacific and Indigenous Studies.

The career possibilities for MA graduates are extensive and diverse. For example, a graduate with a degree in Māori and Indigenous Studies might pursue roles such as director or producer, public relations and marketing executive, cultural advisor, social policy planner, or researcher. Similarly, a Screen and Media Studies MA graduate might become a media relations adviser, media research executive, professional fundraiser, public affairs specialist, public relations consultant, or journalist. Graduates with an MA in History, Māori and Indigenous Studies, or Pacific and Indigenous Studies may find careers as historians, museum curators, heritage researchers, or community development workers, including roles with tribal authorities. Those with an MA in foreign languages could work in the diplomatic service, international marketing, trade commission, or as interpreters and translators.
