The education and training sector in New Zealand, as well as globally, necessitates competent educational leaders, trustees, policy advisors, and senior administrators who can effectively make informed decisions in leadership and management.
This Master of Educational Management (MEdM) program, totalling 180 points, is tailored for individuals seeking to enter or advance in leadership and management careers within the education sector, enabling them to significantly impact organisational performance. The MEdM program enhances comprehension of transformative change, business strategy, financial analysis, and personnel management within educational institutions.
Professionals with advanced expertise in leadership and management within the educational realm are highly sought after. This qualification equips individuals aiming to transition from middle management to senior positions with the skills necessary for various career prospects.
The program can be completed full-time over 18 months. Most education papers are available online, providing participants with the flexibility to study remotely.
Delivered jointly by the Division of Education and Waikato Management School, the MEdM program is instructed by experienced lecturers who are industry experts.
Participants will acquire the abilities to:
- Implement suitable leadership and management techniques to instigate and oversee positive change
- Identify ethical concerns and obligations within the educational setting
- Utilise research-based knowledge to enhance professional practices and student learning
Please be aware that this qualification does lead to doctoral research nor registration with the New Zealand Teaching Council.
This programme is aimed at providing graduates the confidence to make decisions in challenging situations, understanding the importance of strategy, communication, people management, marketing, governance, and financial frameworks in education, and knowing how to lead and manage effectively for positive outcomes. It also raises awareness of ethical issues and responsibilities in educational leadership and management.
Applicants need a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized university, with at least a B-minus grade average in the 300 Level papers and some relevant work experience to be admitted to the Master of Educational Management. If you do not have a bachelor’s degree, you might still qualify for admission by showing significant relevant work experience and evidence of academic achievements.
