Individuals aspiring to build a career in the sports industry will find this coursework-oriented Master’s degree an excellent opportunity to either specialize or expand their knowledge base. The curriculum will incorporate insights from sport science research and feature contributions from both internal and external experts associated with UC, ensuring that you acquire relevant and up-to-date skills. You will have the option to select courses in areas such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, sport psychology, sport nutrition, strength and conditioning, and performance analysis.
This 18-month Master’s program can pave the way for a career in high-performance sports or enable current professionals to enhance and refresh their expertise in sport science.
Those who earn this applied master’s degree will gain a holistic perspective on sport science. Career paths available to graduates encompass:
Sports Scientist or Strength and Conditioning Specialist roles in professional sports, engaging with teams or individual athletes, and within national and international sporting bodies.
Development officer positions in professional sports and health-oriented organizations.
Consulting roles in corporate and community health and fitness sectors.
Health promotion and lifestyle consultancy services.
Coordination of athletic and sports programs. Graduates from the MSS program are eligible for accreditation with Sport and Exercise Science New Zealand (SESNZ) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
To be eligible for enrollment, candidates must have previously obtained a degree in a sport and/or science-related field from Aotearoa New Zealand or an equivalent qualification.
Additionally, it is generally required that applicants have achieved a minimum Grade Point Average of B in 300-level courses within their degree program.
