This qualification is designed to equip you with the essential skills required for a career as a Mechanical Engineering Apprentice. It is advantageous when seeking apprenticeship opportunities, as employers highly value the skills and experience acquired through this program.
Students will gain knowledge in areas such as Fabrication, Welding, Machining, General Engineering, and Drawings, including Computer-Aided Design.
Graduates from this qualification will be able to progress into industry roles including apprenticeships in the following:
Specialist Production Welder
Machine Operator
CNC Machine Operator
Metal Worker/Fabricator
Ducting Fabricator
Pipe Fitter/Welder
Metal Polisher
Pattern Maker Trade Assistant
NCEA Level 2 (recommended), minimum 10 credits NCEA Level 1 in both literacy and numeracy. Three years’ minimum secondary education
Desire to work in the mechanical engineering industry.
Applicants over the age of 20 years at time of enrolment will be considered where they can demonstrate the ability to succeed in a programme.
Non-native English speakers must provide proof of proficiency through one of the following:
IELTS Test –
General or Academic score of 5.0 in all bands
Pearson Test of English PTE –
(Academic) score of 36 in all bands
