This nationally recognised qualification, developed with industry input, equips you with the practical and theoretical skills needed for the New Zealand engineering sector. You’ll gain a strong foundation in engineering science, design, and drawing, as well as electrical systems, electronics, networking, programming, and microcontrollers. Working alongside professional engineers, you’ll apply emerging technologies and develop problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities essential for designing and implementing engineering solutions.
Graduates meet the Engineering New Zealand Graduate Profile for Engineering Technicians, aligned with international Dublin Accord standards.
-The graduate profile aligns with international standards under the Dublin Accord, meaning your qualification is recognised by all member countries worldwide.
-Students also be well-prepared for roles such as electrical technician or electronics technician.
Academic requirements:
-NCEA level 2*, and
-Minimum total of 48 Credits at Level 2 in 4 subjects including at least 12 credits in Mathematics (preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry)
-Including a minimum of 10 literacy credits at level 1 or higher (for those who achieved NCEA level 2 before 2013)
Or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Employment Pathways (Level 4) Engineering Pathway or equivalent
-If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.
English requirements:
If English is not the first language, students must provide a result from a test or qualification on the acceptable alternatives:
