This nationally recognised, industry-designed qualification equips you with the practical and theoretical skills needed for a career in New Zealand’s engineering sector.You’ll gain a strong foundation in engineering science, design and drawing, electrical systems, electronics, networks, protection, and programming. Working alongside professional engineers, you’ll apply emerging technologies and strengthen your problem-solving and critical-thinking skills for real-world applications.
Graduates meet the Engineering New Zealand Graduate Profile for Engineering Technicians, internationally benchmarked under the Dublin Accord. The programme can be completed full-time or part-time (up to five years).
Graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and practical skills outlined in the Engineering New Zealand Graduate Profile for:
-Engineering Technician
Academic requirements:
-NCEA level 2, and
-Minimum total of 48 Credits at Level 2 in 4 subjects including at least 12 credits in Mathematics (preferably achievement standards in algebra, calculus or trigonometry)
-Including a minimum of 10 literacy credits at level 1 or higher (for those who achieved NCEA level 2 before 2013)
Or New Zealand Certificate in Study and Employment Pathways (Level 4) Engineering Pathway or equivalent
-If you have undertaken examinations other than NCEA (e.g. International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Examination), Ara will assess your qualification for academic entry equivalency.
