Master of Science (Human Performance Science)

This curriculum is tailored for those aspiring to augment their undergraduate qualifications with specialized knowledge in sport and exercise science, rehabilitation, and movement-oriented careers.

Course description

The postgraduate sports programs we offer prioritize applied learning and maintain a strong focus on industry relevance, supported by a team of exceptionally skilled academic staff. Students will be able to put their learning into practice within our dedicated facilities. The Wintec Centre for Sport Science and Human Performance will serve as the primary location for students’ studies. The laboratories are fully equipped and accredited by Sport Science New Zealand, making them some of the best sport science facilities in New Zealand.

Students will have access to cutting-edge sport testing and consulting, which is employed by athletes at both national and international levels. There are two available pathways:  Thesis pathway, Dissertation pathway.

Career Prospects

Earning a Master of Science in Human Performance Science may open doors to careers as a university lecturer, research consultant in sports, or as a trainer and conditioner for both individual athletes and teams.

After completing this program, students have the option to engage in doctoral studies. Furthermore, this program offers a pathway for those interested in advancing their education in dietetics or physiotherapy.

Entry requirements

Academic requirement- Students are required to have:

-A Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science with a minimum B grade (65%) in the third year; or
-A corresponding NZ Bachelor degree with a minimum B grade (65%) in the third year; or
-A Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Science with a minimum B grade average; or
-A corresponding NZ Postgraduate Diploma with a minimum B grade average; or
Equivalent.

English Language requirement:

Students who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.5 with no individual band score lower than 6.0; or equivalent.
