About

The Southern Institute of Technology (SIT; Māori: Te Whare Wānanga o Murihiku) is a public tertiary education institute established in 1971. It is one of New Zealand’s largest institutes of technology, with a student body of over 13,000 in 2024.

Established in 1880, SIT boasts a rich history and currently operates across five main campuses. Their extensive range of 200+ programmes is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and aligned with the New Zealand Qualifications Framework, ensuring high standards of education. These programmes offer numerous pathways to employment opportunities or further study, both within New Zealand and internationally, providing students with a wealth of options for their future endeavours.
