The program will provide educational opportunities aimed at enhancing your practice and cultivating essential knowledge in Treaty-based practice. Students will experience professional growth through interactive and experiential learning methods. This postgraduate diploma is designed to build upon students’ current qualifications, facilitating advanced interprofessional development. Participants will acquire the skills necessary to develop, analyze, and devise solutions for complex and often unpredictable challenges. This qualification is applicable to practitioners across various practice settings, and the resulting collaboration among health and social services professionals will improve and fortify service delivery within the region.
An interprofessional framework will empower graduates to enhance their abilities in critical thinking and professional/clinical reasoning, essential for specialized practice, leadership, and management in intricate professional landscapes.
It is important to note that this program does not lead to professional registration in New Zealand’s health or social service sectors. The Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Social Practice with a focus on Mental Health and Addiction is accredited by DAPAANZ and fulfills the educational criteria for DAPAANZ registration.
Professional Supervision, Midwifery and Mental Health and Addiction
The objective of this program is to enhance your ability to engage in specialized roles such as practitioner, practice leader, manager, educator, or researcher, either within your current field or in specialized areas that encompass working with children and youth, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, refugees and migrants, as well as mental health.
Graduates will have the opportunity to acquire expertise in a new domain or to deepen their existing specialization.
The Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Social Practice will effectively prepare graduates for progression into Master’s level programs at other universities in New Zealand.
Academic requirements:
Students must possess:
i. an undergraduate degree deemed relevant by the Programme Manager, or
ii. a qualification recognized as equivalent by the Programme Manager.
b) Applicants lacking a relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification may present a portfolio, and if their application is successful, they may be admitted on an ad eundum statem basis.
c) Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Social Practice (Professional Supervision) and the Postgraduate Certificates in Professional Supervision must have at least two years of post-qualifying experience in their professional field or an equivalent. This requirement acknowledges the necessity for candidates to have solidified and advanced their practice to a level adequate for assuming the role of supervisor for others.
d) Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health and Social Practice (Midwifery) and the Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery must:
i. be registered with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand; and
ii. possess a current Annual Practising Certificate; and
iii. have a minimum of one year of post-qualifying experience in midwifery practice (or an equivalent as approved by the selection committee); and
iv. maintain an average practice of at least 16 hours per week over the course of a year.
English Language requirement:
Students whose primary language is not English must obtain a score of 7 or higher in all sections of the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or an equivalent assessment. Additionally, they will need to provide evidence of their potential to successfully meet the learning outcomes of the program.
